Lyin' Eyes

I haven't posted in a while, but I have been busy painting ....in oils!  You can correctly deduce by the lack of a posted painting, that I am a long way from competent in this medium.  But I am having so much fun...the colors, the buttery consistency, the extended drying time, I love everything about using them.

Mike Rooney's(www.mikerooneystudios.blogspot.com)  workshop in Bluffton was great.  He is a very relaxed and knowledgeable instructor, who will also serenade you on his ukulele as time permits!  We didn't have very good weather, so most of the time was spent in the studio.  The other artists in the group were all accomplished, and painted in oils.  I quickly learned that acrylics are not easy in plein air, drying too quickly, the large water container was awkward, etc.....so I switched to oils too.  I had a very old set that my mother left me, and once I learned that you can clean up with canola oil rather than turps. I was converted. The other artists all supported my shift, giving me colors I lacked, liquin, and quiet advise.  This was a super group of folks, all very patient of my blunders.

I've churned out three oil paintings so far, and am having a hard time not making mud (hence the title, Lying Eyes), but I'll keep working, I know there's a good one in there somewhere!

Here's to learning new things!
